In this email marketing for beginners lesson I will share with you the fastest way to grow a list that continues to succeed overtime. It’s important that you begin growing your email list early on in your business even if you have no idea where any of this is going. Just like blogging. Get those posts well established and then you can always go back edit, tweak, upgrade, what have you.
Now we won’t go deep into email marketing in this article. We will cover that separately.
The first thing I will recommend is starting a Facebook group for your brand, business, small shop, even if you are a content creator. This is because the longer it has been on the platform, the more it will be suggested to people. It’s crucial you follow these steps:
- Start a FB group that relates to your niche
- Make the title of the group KEYWORD rich so that they bump it often
- Create the group even if you have no idea what you’re doing with it (you can always edit and learn later)

Membership questions are in the settings inside your FB groups. Be sure to make the last question an email opt in. I personally recommend making this optional so that your community grows faster. Many people who feel like it’s a requirement will likely unsubscribe immediately and that will just be bad business in terms of bounce rates, etc.

- if you add an opt in on your front page or in your posts then make sure it’s not a pop up, embed into the page

How To Deliver Your Opt In
Once you create your email opt in via Canva, you’ll then want to be able to deliver the download. I use Google Drive. Download your ebook, freebie or what have you and save as a PDF file.
- Now upload to your Google Drive
- Select the SHARE button in the top right corner
- Under General Access click ANYONE with LINK
- Then COPY link
Now you’ll create a workflow in your email marketing platform (we use Flodesk) and share that link to the download to deliver.

Why You Need To Grow Email List For Your Brand
I put this off for a long time when I began blogging. Bloggers always had email options on their sites and to be honest, I was such a simple person that it became too overwhelming for even me. It wasn’t until the past 5 years that I started really trying to figure it all out because I knew something had to give. It works. Email marketing is the #1 way to create income for your brand. It’s essentially all you’ll ever need to grow your business. Social media is nice. But you don’t own it.
Understanding Email Lists
In your Flodesk account you will see SEGMENTS. This is where you will create different categories for your audience. For example if you create a FREEBIE opt in you’ll want to create a segment that is called (FREE BLOG LIST OPT IN). Then you will be able to create a workflow to deliver that freebie.
Utilizing social media to grow your email list:
- when you share something to stories be sure to link it to your subscription page
- offer cool and fun things throughout the week so people WANT to be included in your VIP list
- make them feel special- building rapport is key
- another fast way to earn subscribers is hosting giveaways
- mention several times throughout the week that they can subscribe to get VIP access to certain posts, etc
