Starbucks Copycat – how to make brown sugar oat milk espresso

Brown Sugar Oatmilk Espresso Recipe. When I first tried the new Starbucks Brown Sugar Oat Milk Espresso, I thought “Thank the coffee heavens!” You get excited beyond belief when you find a good “go to” coffee drink that doesn’t actually stink: I suck as a barista. There’s no messing this one up. I wanted to learn how to make it at home because um, $6.75 for a small drink is um, yeah…INSANE. To each their own. I’m making this bad boy at home today!

So What Is Brown Sugar Oatmilk Espresso Anyways

I thought this would be a fun recipe to concoct at home because it’s cool owning an espresso machine and duh, saving money! Haha. My daughters and I love almond milk and creating our own little things at home as all natural enthusiasts so, this is gonna be a good one!

However, this Starbucks recipe calls for OATMILK instead. You can find in the dairy section at any grocer.

EDIT: I’ve recently been diagnosed with food allergies and cannot tolerate the oatmilk any longer. I always ask the barista for milk and they substitute.

What You’ll Need:

  • an Espresso maker (I use this one)
  • an Espresso pod of choice (I like the Starbucks and Nespresso pods)
  • light brown sugar
  • ice
  • cinnamon (optional)
  • Oatmilk or milk of choice (I currently use whole or 2%)
  • Shaker Cup

How To Prepare:

  • Prepare your espresso in whatever mug or glass cup you’re using
  • Stir in 1-2 teaspoons light brown sugar so it melts as soon as your cup is finished brewing (I typically sneak the sugar into the cup while it’s brewing to save time)
  • Pour into a shaker cup filled with ice
  • Add Oatmilk (about 3/4 cup or 1 cup is all you need)
  • Pour into a glass and sprinkle some cinnamon on

Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso

It’s important to have a shaker with this recipe otherwise it won’t turn out as well. You can also prepare homemade brown sugar syrup as called for in this recipe here. I’m too lazy so I just add my sugar right into the espresso as it’s brewing.
